DAVE
(Lead Guitar/Vocals)
Dave’s musical career started when he was about 15, when he discovered the world of 50’s / 60’s Rock ‘N’ Roll. Armed with a cheap acoustic guitar he would lock himself away in his bedroom trying to mimic the greats of that era. Through the Sex Pistols’ recording of ‘Something Else’ Dave became focused on the music of Eddie Cochran. Eddie remains his icon to this day.
Mainly self-taught Dave is now the proud owner of a number of guitars, including a replica of Eddie’s famous Gretsch 6120W. He also uses similar amplification to that used by the great man.
There have been many highlights for Dave during recent years, including meeting and befriending Eddie’s girlfriend and Rock ‘N’ Roll Hall of Fame songwriter Sharon Sheeley. They met when she visited The Eddie Cochran Weekender in 1996 and remained friends until her untimely death in 2002. Sharon wrote the Ricky Nelson hit ‘Poor Little Fool’.
Over the years Dave has played for a number of bands, including Some Kinda Earthquake, The Moonshine Boys and My Alcoholic Neighbour. He has been heavily influenced by such greats as The Stray Cats and The Clash while maintaining his roots in the non-electronic era of live music.
Dave has been featured on a number of recordings: He provided backing vocals and played guitar on the Some Kinda Earthquake albums ‘Devastating’ and ‘Gypsy Girl’. SKE also provided tracks on a number of Indie compilations including ‘The Best of British Rock ‘n Roll’. In 1996 Dave provided lead vocals and played guitar on The Eager Beavers’ album ‘Dam ‘n Blast, put out by Rockhouse Records. The album is currently available from Tesco, Raucous Records and Nervous Records.
